Itchy Palms Gardens are starting to come alive now Spring is here. We have been so busy preparing for the Open Garden this December on Saturday the 14th & Sunday 15th ; from 10am till 4pm both days. We are hoping there will also be a potter on the premises this year turning clay into pots on her wheel and sell her beautiful pots just in time for Christmas. There will also be a plant stall and tea and coffee/cold drinks. Save the date. ; ) Here are three pictures of our three new Dutch Iris beds showing initial planting to full bloom. They are such a bright Spring feature that I just had to show them off. Unfortunately this beautiful display will be over by our Open Garden. And to think all these bulbs started from one small packet about 15 years ago. Below are a few other Spring pics Remember if you want to see a gardeners garden that won't disappoint; Save the date.

Winter is here again an it's the time to rearrange the garden. We have been very busy changing things around and creating new features at Itchy Palms Gardens. Pruning too has kept us on our toes. Below is a before and after shot of one of 8 moptop gleditsias we've freshly pruned. Paul & I have also put in a dry river bed just because ;) We've just completed this massive project and hope you all come and see it this December at our Open Garden. We have also put in 4 iris beds as shown below. To all of you keep enjoying your own creations in the garden. Happy Digging.
Well this summer has been hotter and dryer than any I can remember.
It's hard to be enthusiastic about going outside when all you have worked towards is wilting or nearly dead. We are almost out of water but are much better off than a lot of properties around Central Victoria. So I'm more focused on what we will be doing after a decent rain. Onward and upward! There is no lawn to speak of at Itchy Palms at the moment; just crunchy weeds in the Wedding Garden. With no rain for months I decided to the start the ball rolling. Last week I optimistically ordered a truck load of quality top dressing with cow manure, compost and loam for our Wedding Garden. Fingers crossed it will be washed in from above soon. I bought seed too but I'm thinking of waiting till Spring to put that out. 😬 Happy Digging. After having a very successful Open Garden in December of last year we have laid low over the hot summer days since. However I have major plans for revamping the garden in the 'pipeline'. We are already planning for this years Open Garden this December and I'm so excited! ;) I would like to again officially thank all my family and friends for helping us on the day and making it so awesome. The response from our 217 visitors was really positive and we raised a substantial amount of money for the Mandurang Hall. A big thank you to all of the Hall members who collected money at the entry gate and helped things run smoothly. Here are a few snaps of the day. We all had a great day even though there was a nice shower or two of rain. The garden looked great, the frogs were croaking and all our hard work paid off. Congratulations again to Duncan Thomas for winning the raffle at the entry on the day. We just hope our enthusiasm in our garden has inspired all who visited to go home and pick up a shovel. Happy Digging.

Our one and only official Open Garden for 2018 is coming up soon in December. We have been doing all sorts of preparation and think this will be the best one yet. So many things have changed on the property since last year and even though the weather has not been favourable we are sure that anyone visiting on the 15th and 16th of December between 10am and 4pm will not be disappointed. These pictures show the construction phase of our paths in the Wedding Garden area with the canna's in their 'brown paper' state after a very frosty winter. We've shifted the grapevines from the Oriental Garden and this area is really coming together. We can't wait to show of the end result at the Open Garden. Stay tuned. Happy Digging
We have been very busy preparing for our Open Garden on Saturday and Sunday December 15 &16 from 10am till 4pm 2018. Admission will be $8 and we are raising funds for the Mandurang Hall refurbishment project. Even so there is always time to enjoy the flowers and peonies are one of my favourites. Here are a few that have been flowering in our garden recently. It's been a long cold winter as usual here in Central Victoria. We've had many frosty mornings and luckily enough rain to fill our dam. Its nearly Spring so here are a few flowers to brighten up your day Over the years we've tried so hard to have flowers about the garden all year round. These bulbs and plants are fantastically suited to our climate. They parade all winter then go to sleep through the hot months of the year not requiring any water while they are sleeping. And they multiply/divide easily. As these ones fade our Spring show is stirring. ;)
