Itchy Palms Gardens are starting to come alive now Spring is here. We have been so busy preparing for the Open Garden this December on Saturday the 14th & Sunday 15th ; from 10am till 4pm both days. We are hoping there will also be a potter on the premises this year turning clay into pots on her wheel and sell her beautiful pots just in time for Christmas. There will also be a plant stall and tea and coffee/cold drinks. Save the date. ; ) Here are three pictures of our three new Dutch Iris beds showing initial planting to full bloom. They are such a bright Spring feature that I just had to show them off. Unfortunately this beautiful display will be over by our Open Garden. And to think all these bulbs started from one small packet about 15 years ago. Below are a few other Spring pics Remember if you want to see a gardeners garden that won't disappoint; Save the date.

Winter is here again an it's the time to rearrange the garden. We have been very busy changing things around and creating new features at Itchy Palms Gardens. Pruning too has kept us on our toes. Below is a before and after shot of one of 8 moptop gleditsias we've freshly pruned. Paul & I have also put in a dry river bed just because ;) We've just completed this massive project and hope you all come and see it this December at our Open Garden. We have also put in 4 iris beds as shown below. To all of you keep enjoying your own creations in the garden. Happy Digging.

Our one and only official Open Garden for 2018 is coming up soon in December. We have been doing all sorts of preparation and think this will be the best one yet. So many things have changed on the property since last year and even though the weather has not been favourable we are sure that anyone visiting on the 15th and 16th of December between 10am and 4pm will not be disappointed. These pictures show the construction phase of our paths in the Wedding Garden area with the canna's in their 'brown paper' state after a very frosty winter. We've shifted the grapevines from the Oriental Garden and this area is really coming together. We can't wait to show of the end result at the Open Garden. Stay tuned. Happy Digging
It's been a long cold winter as usual here in Central Victoria. We've had many frosty mornings and luckily enough rain to fill our dam. Its nearly Spring so here are a few flowers to brighten up your day Over the years we've tried so hard to have flowers about the garden all year round. These bulbs and plants are fantastically suited to our climate. They parade all winter then go to sleep through the hot months of the year not requiring any water while they are sleeping. And they multiply/divide easily. As these ones fade our Spring show is stirring. ;)
Our Christmas present from above. December 2017
As you can see this poor Manchurian Pear in our De Beer's Garden has been in the wars before and was just starting to heal nicely. She broke in half 4 days after our Open Garden (thankfully) when a storm came past with strong winds. Paul has done some surgery with his chainsaw since and we are giving this tree one more chance. It's amazing how one tree can totally change the appearance of a garden. The plants around it have gone from full shade to full sun so hopefully they are tough enough to survive our brutal summer. Pictures of surgery and progress to follow. Merry Christmas & Happy Digging. Yes our first open day is this weekend (16th & 17th December 2016 10am till 4pm each day) to help raise funds for the local Mandurang Hall restoration project. Just a few finishing touches to be done and hopefully the weather will be our friend. We are so happy with our progress and so exhausted but hope to see your here. There will be drinks available and some plants on sale. We have a porter loo on site and there are disabled toilets at the Mandurang Cricket club on the corner of Nankervis and Sedgwick roads. Special thanks to Bendigrow Garden and Living Centre, and Tannery Lane Sand and Soil, Tannery Lane, Strathfieldsaye Victoria. Remember be sun smart and sorry no dogs. Here are some fresh brag pictures of the gardens to inspire you. Happy Digging. Itchypalms Gardens address is 26 Kenean Court Mandurang south, Victoria :)
On 16th and 17th of December 2017 we are opening our garden to the public for the first time partnering the Mandurang Hall Committee to help raise funds for the renovation and running costs associated with maintaining the hall.
As you can see we have been very busy preparing the 2.5acre garden for the weekend of the grand opening. The weather so far has been very favourable with a recent rain of 18mm. There should be plenty of flowers out for all to see. Hope to see you all here. Happy Digging |
